Unless the art-design was on point, the games generally looked bad. We know this thing excelled when it came to 2D games, but the 3D games were pretty off. Visually, the games were all over the shop. I don't get how Sega got this part of the console so wrong. The Nintendo 64, and particularly the PlayStation looked leagues better, being released in the same time frame. Neither the US/EU or JP versions looked any good.they were just big boxes. It was an awkward phase in home entertainment device design, and the Saturn really didn't fair so well.
